Coco and Claudia

Image
These are two beautiful sisters, rescued by PennyPaws Dog rescue charity. It was both a challenge and a delight to draw them. I think I have conveyed their closeness to each other.   https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/2024/02/28/coco/

Finished portrait

Image
I managed to finish this over a few days. It was difficult to get the proportions right. I feel happy with this version. There is always room for improvement. What I learned was that the pale pink and oranges do not smudge in well on black paper but disappear the colour which was frustrating, maybe I will try a different colour paper next time I try to do a portrait of a person. It may be a while. I am struggling with vision issues seeing shapes and colours, plus accuracy of drawing. Not given up yet.

Beginning a portrait

Image
Having focussed on drawing dogs gor a while now, I hope that my human portraits might have improved as I have learned to take longer to focus on small details. As always I start on black paper with white pastel pencil outline. It is so important to get the outline as good as possible. Not easy when drawing freehand with eyes that don’t hold their focus and are blurry. I always need to adjust as I go. Getting the mouth right is something I find particularly challenging.

Blue

U This was a surprise present. It is always a huge challenge painting a dog accurately enough to see who they are, not just a representation of a dog, but that dog which is loved and so special to the person. I can’t afford to get a poor likeness or they won’t recognise their loved companion. No small task then to get it right. I was so glad to be told that I had captured his spirit and the picture was well received. It makes my day to get good feedback. I am struggling more and more with each picture and never know whether I will ever be able to do another, so severe is my recurring daily paralysis and blankness in my head which affects my ability, my  grip, my control and coordination.

Lucas

Image
LUCAS This beautiful dog reminds us of our beloved rescued corgis, now sadly gone. He has such a beautiful face and sweet look to him. Such a lovely dog had to be drawn. He looks a delight in his video, https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/2024/05/09/lucas/

Tommy

This poor gorgeous dog, stuck in a small cage touched my heart. A very quick sketch in a tiny moment of ability. https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/2024/03/31/tommy-2/
