Finally a short interval

Image
This is Gracie, a sweet puppy needing a home. Finally a short interval where I could hold a pastel and look at a picture to draw this sweet puppy. So relieved I managed to do it as I felt my ability would never come back, my numbness and paralysis were so severe. Then a brief opportunity, returning to 3/4 paralysis then total paralysis. Art, a bright spot in a very difficult  life.

Poem for Woody

Image
I find myself unable to draw at the moment due to weakness and paralysis.so here is a poem I have written to accompany my previous pastel of poor lovely Woody, who still needs a home. Greg Crowhurst 4 m    ·  Shared with Public Poem for Woody Please don’t forget me I was saved from death  Living In dire conditions Yet still I have not found my way  Out of here To the loving home I yearn for. Please don’t leave me here in a strange limbo  Balanced between despair and hope. I long to be special to someone. I long for my own precious name tag That says I am home And loved. Please remember me And take a chance. https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/woody-available-for-adoption/   See less

Unable to hold a pastel

Image
Unable to hold a pastel, I turn to one finger ipad drawings to express my reality. Hoping to create a video with them.

Blase

This is beautiful Blase, a PennyPaws Rescue dog, saved from a kill shelter. He so deserves a loving home. https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/2022/11/29/beautiful-blase/

Coco and Claudia

Image
These are two beautiful sisters, rescued by PennyPaws Dog rescue charity. It was both a challenge and a delight to draw them. I think I have conveyed their closeness to each other.   https://pennypawsrescue.org.uk/2024/02/28/coco/

Finished portrait

Image
I managed to finish this over a few days. It was difficult to get the proportions right. I feel happy with this version. There is always room for improvement. What I learned was that the pale pink and oranges do not smudge in well on black paper but disappear the colour which was frustrating, maybe I will try a different colour paper next time I try to do a portrait of a person. It may be a while. I am struggling with vision issues seeing shapes and colours, plus accuracy of drawing. Not given up yet.

Beginning a portrait

Image
Having focussed on drawing dogs gor a while now, I hope that my human portraits might have improved as I have learned to take longer to focus on small details. As always I start on black paper with white pastel pencil outline. It is so important to get the outline as good as possible. Not easy when drawing freehand with eyes that don’t hold their focus and are blurry. I always need to adjust as I go. Getting the mouth right is something I find particularly challenging.
