Lilly


 I found this pastel of Lilly that I did years ago. It inspires me to focus more on drawing flowers. There is always a paradox though between wanting to draw the flower perfectly on a botanical level of drawing and yet also loving the looseness of pastels. I hope to do more flowers as Spring comes on and our garden takes bloom.

Difficulties in drawing

  There are quite a few hurdles I need to overcome in order to draw a pastel. Hand to eye coordination is mostly tricky, difgicult or not posdible. My hands and fingers are always numb to varying degrees. They slso burn with pain and throb frequently. My eyes are blurry and it is hard to focus. Several times a day or all day I can be paralysed partially or totally, near paralysed, or too weak to move. My mind is blanked by each paralysis and I cannot necessarily see or understand or receive and edpress information. And then there is the head pain, switching sides, left, right, top, back of head, neck, limbs all throbbing in unison. It is quite miraculous that I can ever  draw at all. Then there are literally brief moments in a month when I can see a bit more clearly, I might hold a pastel and look at a picture and try to draw it. I have to be very quick. Any sound or movement or surprise can knock me back into blankness and paralysis once more and the rest of the day is stolen...

The Little Page of Dog Promotions

I am truly delighted to raise awareness of this wonderful Facebook page which highlights the plight of dogs desperately in need of foster and adoption. I am so proud they featured my picture of Dottie, a beautiful pregnant dog who was rescued on the streets of Romania and gave birth safely to her puppies in a private shelter. There are so many dogs needing loving caring homes. I really hope that the portraits I do, bring out the dog’s beauty and enable it to be seen. It’s quite amazing how drawing the pictures touch  and bring out the dog’s deeper, often hidden emotion. Hopefully they reveal something more of the dog . Drawing the dogs  brings me such a great sense of connection and enormous love for them. Chico, amazing ears!

I have struggled with bad daily paralysis all month and yet longed to get some aspect of  the sweetness of this lovely dog who is sad and needing a new home.  My fingers work very little of  the time, are extremely weak and numb yet hurt at the same time and are periodically, daily, paralysed.  It is my joy to try and draw a dog in moments when my mind, fine control of my hands and my coordination come together. It is not frequent enough and so unpredictable and erratic. Chico is a PennyPaws Romanian rescue dog and hoping he can find the right people to love him forever.
