Me in the middle

Image
This is my physical reality, the context in which I am sometimes able to express myself through poetry and art. The worse it is, the greater the need to try and express it. This is my latest attempt to convey something of my ongoing experience. The pain pushes outwards The world pushes inwards Me, in the middle. Feels like I will burst with it, Shatter, disintegrate,  from the strain. The pressure mounts The pain expands It squeezes me. It batters  me inside and out. Whilst I, I try to remain calm. I cannot move. The pain dominates Numbness creeps up me. Sight diminishes. Thought disappears. And I am lost from my world And just have to wait,  Seemingly endlessly, Till the pressure That would surely crush me Lowers Though the burning, throbbing, crawling pain Continues its unrelenting assault And I, Still In the middle, To my surprise, Have found some kind of inner peace, To endure it.

A NEW SONG VIDEO FOR SEVERE ME UNDERSTANDING AND REMEMBRANCE DAY 2026

Image
A VIDEO TO COMMEMORATE SEVERE ME UNDERSTANDING AND REMEMBRANCE DAY 2026 We are proud to have been involved in promoting Severe ME Understanding and Remembrance Day, which is commemorated all around the world now, right from its very beginning. Like so many others, we have had to endure negation, disbelief, countless injustices, unimaginable loss, profound isolation and never ending, off the scale, intense suffering. We have always been passionate, however, about raising awareness of the struggle and sharing what we have learned about how to care in such an incredibly complex situation. In honour of this very special day we have produced this music/art video. It is 35 years since my wife was diagnosed with Severe ME. That's 35 years of neglect, agony, obscurity and invisibility..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7KCSTD2EFM&feature=youtu.be

Roy

I was greatly moved by this beautiful dog’s face and felt I had to draw him. He is no longer here but his beauty and loveliness remains. There is something humbling and sacred about drawing a dog who has died yet is so precious to the owner who still loves them . It is such a touching experience to try and honour this life and so important to capture the energy and the true likeness. I always do my best.

NEW DESIGN WEBPAGE

Image
I am delighted that my webpage has been updated and fresh images on it presented in a quirky way with additional animated  and still pictures to hopefully enjoy. http://www.holyway.co.uk/artist/index.html Please take a look if you will. It has taken my amazing web designer husband many days to get this right for me. I am so grateful.

Sweet, Sensitive Santu

Image
It is a wonderful feeling to finish drawing a dog, after many hours of time consuming detail, to find that it is loved and recognisable as the dog. But it is even more satisfying and delightful to get that picture printed and then frame it and send it as a gift. My hope is always to bring delight and comfort, to brighten the day of the person who receives it. This is Santu. Much loved dog. It is so very important, to me, to capture the essence of the dog, not just look like a good likeness of a dog. That is always my aim. It is always a relief and a joy when it comes together.

Queen Anne’s Lace

Image
I have always loved the exquisite delicacy of Queen Anne’s Lace but a whole flower is way too daunting to undertake. However, as  I sit partially paralyzed, unable to think or read or write, I have some movement in my right hand. I have the time. It will take many hours to break. I approach it a little at a time for that is the only way to arrive at tge final destination of a picture! When I stand back from it, it suddenly looks right and I feel pleased.

One

Image
The artist and the soul and God are one. The pastel and the hand are guided by the inner eye that knows rather than the outer eye that sees. When words will not find pathways from the soul, colour takes over and dances on the paper expressing purity of feeling beyond even the capability of words. Words would struggle to contain their meaning.

Simplicity of a fox glove

Image
The simplicity of the foxglove in its natural setting lifts my heart. It constantly stands and offers food yo humming bees. Its elegance and beauty rafiste ftom it. This one stands on the grave of our beloved dog. A loving reminder of his sweet nature and beautiful life.

A simple clematis

Image
I love the simplicity of flowers, yet even so, they are a challenge to draw and capture their essence. I hope I have achieved this with this beautiful, simple, white flower.

NEW SONG VIDEO ‘ HER DANCING SHIRT

Image
HER DANCING SHURT, A NEW SONG It was a windy day, my green shirt on the line was dancing wildly in the Spring sunshine. I used to teach dance, I used to do cartwheels on the beach, I was always the first one on the floor to dance at a party, but all I could do was watch the crazy, wild dance moves my shirt was making as it was knocked hither and thither by the breeze, for my body was paralysed, my feet stuck to the floor, my whole body throbbing in agony. I wrote a poem about the so stark juxtaposition between my dancing shirt and my decades long immobility. This song, was composed by my husband, based on that poem, trying to express the sadness and yet the jauntiness of the shirt shifting about so freely lifts the music too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omgT_6QTAZY

BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL THOMAS

Image
When we saw Thomas quietly sitting in the Kill Shelter, we knew we absolutely had to help him. He had such a peace and grace about him. Thank goodness he was saved in time. Linda called him Thomas. We are so glad to part sponsor him And helped in the process of saving such a beautiful dog from a terrible fate. There is more about this sweet dog here: https://pennypawsrescue.org. uk/?s=Thomas And see his wonderful video made by Jonathan Slatter . Just looking at Thomas melts our hearts.

Dance With Me

Image
I wanted to express how I feel about our love through dance even though I cannot dance in this way. Dancing is in my being. This is what my beloved husbands said about the drawings for this video.  “Composing the music for them had me in tears. She can barely move, cannot bear to be touched, is in the most terrible throbbing all over pain, probably worse than ever. Yet, her and me, our journey has always been the most exquisite, beautiful dance .” https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=cwWKzwmrKHA&feature=youtu.be

TWO DRAWINGS, ONE SWEET DOG,

Beloved dog

Image
I like to illustrate my poems with simple pictures. It may take a long time, but eventually I get there. BELOVED DOG You are no longer here Yet you are everywhere Every millisecond of my life Contains multiple memories of you. Every blade of grass here was walked on or sniffed by you. Every path was taken by your faltering paws. Every space echoes you. Every thing I did, you were there too. How then can I go on without you? Yet how can I ever replace you? I cannot. And so you glisten in the morning light. Your bark echoes to me in unexpected moments You cuddle me ethereally at nightfall. You remain forever in my life. And always in my heart. I cannot let you go, Beloved little dog
